Mattress firmness: a matter of opinion, not fact
Terms like “soft”, “plush” or “firm” are all relative, qualitative words that often describe a mattress. Truth be told, the firmness level of a mattress is entirely subjective, depending on factors like the sleeper’s weight, sleep tendencies and personal preferences.
While shopping, you will notice that most Zinus mattresses come in different thicknesses. Ranging from 15 - 30cms, we carry a variety of profile heights. In general, a taller mattress will feel softer than a shorter version of the same model. This is because taller mattresses are made up of additional layers, contributing further to the sinking feeling you get from a “soft” mattress.
Furthermore, it’s important to remember that your body weight plays a big part in how a mattress feels beneath you. Heavier people will sink further into any mattress, meaning they perceive most models to feel soft. By contrast, lighter people do not put as much pressure on a mattress’s surface, giving them the feeling of extra firmness.

To help you find the perfect feel, it's important to know that firmness is relative. The feel of a mattress depends on your body weight.
A Simple Rule of Thumb:
- Sleepers under 60kg: May find that this mattress feels firmer than the rating.
- Sleepers 60kg and over: May find that this mattress feels softer than the rating.
Our Recommendation:
Couples put more combined weight on the mattress, often concentrated in the same area, so thinner mattresses may compress more than they would for a single sleeper. -

None of our mattress covers should be removed, and they are not washable.Removing the mattress cover could harm the fire safety barrier and void your warranty, so please always leave the cover on. There is a consumer label sewn into your mattress as a reminder not to remove the cover.

You may spot clean your Zinus mattress with a mild soap and clean towel. It is best not to drench the foam and always use a mattress protector to prevent any liquids from penetrating.
